Driver Hire Training adds to franchisees’ success

One of the many benefits of franchising is the franchisor’s ability to undertake market research and, based on the results, develop relevant new products and services which will increase franchisees’ revenue flows.
That’s certainly the case here at Driver Hire, as the leading transport & logistics recruitment franchise.
When the Government introduced Driver Certificate of Professional Competence training (Driver CPC) to the road transport industry in 2010, Driver Hire spotted an opportunity to meet an industry need. Driver CPC training must be undertaken by all goods vehicle drivers in order to maintain their professional licence. To do this they must complete 35 hours of vocational training over a five-year rolling programme.
To meet this need, Driver Hire launched Driver Hire Training, to run alongside its logistics recruitment business. Starting from scratch, Driver Hire Training has developed 20 different Driver CPC training modules, produced marketing material and, most importantly, trained a team of trainers including some franchisees. It also has a head office based support team dealing with bookings and other Driver CPC related admin.
Driver Hire’s training network has grown to become one of the industry’s largest, offering quality Driver CPC training through Driver Hire’s nationwide network of offices. What’s more, it’s just passed a notable milestone – during October 2018 it delivered its one-millionth hour of Driver CPC training.
Lorraine Thompson, franchisee at Driver Hire’s highly successful Oxford office, has been an enthusiastic Driver CPC training provider since its launch. She clearly sees the benefit for her business.
“My training team have delivered over 5,500 hours of Driver CPC training since 2010. It’s added £421K to revenue and continues to be a great way of establishing a contact with new customers and deepening relationships with existing ones. As a standalone business, I certainly wouldn’t have had the expertise or resources to set up a training arm, so it’s been great for my franchise.”
Graham Duckworth, Driver Hire’s Franchise Sales Director added:
“Driver CPC training is another example of the comprehensive support package we offer to help franchisees develop their business and maximise its potential.”
Franchising for over 30 years, with a nationwide network of franchised offices, Driver Hire is the UK’s largest specialist supplier of temporary and permanent drivers and other logistics staff to local and national organisations in both the public and private sector. If a client is short of staff – perhaps because of illness, holidays or seasonal demand – Driver Hire will supply them with a suitable replacement.
With an average turnover of £1.1m, three times the industry average of £378,400, Driver Hire franchised offices continue to outperform the market.
